road trip

There's something about a road trip, no matter where you're going or for what purpose, that feels so freeing, so full of possibilities.  I've driven the route between Massachusetts and Maryland dozens of times, but the sights always intrigue me.

The Vince Lombardi rest stop (the first bathroom on the New Jersey turnpike) has saved my life on a number of occassions.  I have practically kissed the ground right at this spot on several trips where I got stuck in bad traffic in the city.  O Vince Lombardi rest stop, I love you so.

The views along the Cape Cod Canal are pretty much tailor-made to photograph -- lots of sparkling water, ships, seabirds, and sky.  But some of the elements that aren't traditionally beautiful -- the electric power plant, the heavy concrete supports of the bridges -- have their own particular beauty that I love.

plimoth

Today I volunteered at Plimoth Plantation for their annual clean-up day. There were over 300 people who showed up to help prepare for the 2009 season. Mom, who regularly volunteers at Plimoth, was there to help serve lunch to all us hungry workers.

I was assigned to the group who got to clean the animal pens -- which was a treat for all 5 of the senses. We shoveled a lot of various kinds of... well, the pictures tell the story.

And back home over the bridge -- still trying to get the perfect shot.
