almost spring

In the spring a young turkey's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love...

saturday @ little sandy pond

Just about a year ago brother-in-law/Uncle Jeffery came east for a visit at Grandma's Susie's house, and he visited again yesterday, along with his coworker Michael. Hannah and Fallon stayed in the water for hours, floating and talking and boating, while the rest of us ate and lounged around and then did some swimming and boating, too.

A quick thundershower came through, and then the sun returned for a lovely end to the day.

walking weekend 2009 day 3

On the last day of the hiking weekend, Marcella and I joined a dozen other hikers, led by Mark Robinson, for a shore to shore tour of Cotuit pathways and conservation land. A beautiful walk from the ocean through woods, marshes, cedar swamp land, and ending up at Eagle Pond.

All photos are posted on my flickr photo page.

walking weekend 2009 day 1

Last year at this time I was participating in Cape Walk 2008, which is held every other year. This year I'm doing the more relaxed Spring Walking Weekend. Today I joined 14 other walkers and Nickerson State Park Interpreter Todd Kelley as we climbed the Great Divide that separates the Nickerson State Park watershed from the Brewster watershed, and walked the trails around the Little and Big Cliff Ponds.

I'll be doing several more walks this weekend and there will be plenty of photos on my Flickr photo page.

Photos from last year's Cape Walk 2008 are still available here.

looking for signs

If I walk in a big circle around my neighborhood, it's about 5 miles and a good morning excursion. It's still pretty brisk on Cape Cod, with a chilly wind off the ocean, and the few signs of spring haven't softened the landscape all that much. So here are some other signs I found along the way, with a few scenic views thrown in. As you will see, people in my neighborhood scored in the bottom third percentile on the standardized test for spelling.

For my brother Tom

Beware! I'm a big mean dog!

Really. Don't enter.
