This house has intrigued me since we first moved to Cape Cod seven years ago. It has sat deteriorating and empty, nestled among historic homes on Route 6A, for a very long time. I got permission from the realtor to photograph it as part of a
library project to document old homes in our area.
It is still filled with items from the people who once lived there. Plates and mugs, furniture, clothes, canisters of beans and pasta. Like houses in a ghost town, it is as if the residents just got up and walked away in the middle of the day, leaving dishes in the sink, the tea kettle on the stove, towels hung on the back of the bathroom door, and curtains in the windows.
This house is filled with ghosts of memories. My goal is to preserve those memories through images and stories. If you have information on this house or know of other old homes in the area that should be documented,

Beautiful and strange, it looks like they left in a hurry. I dont think that you can find houses like that in Holland. What a wonderful project. Have fun and I hope to see more.

This is so haunting. I wonder what happened to the last family to live in this home. To have left clothes hanging, dishes in the sink, a tea kettle on the stove. So unexpected. What must have occurred...
